From predicting planetary motion to understanding patterns in populations and reflections, this lecture explores the fascinating world of dynamical systems—mathematics that describes constant change. Sabyasachi Mukherjee delves into how seemingly different systems share deep, unexpected connections. Through ideas like fractals, mirror reflections, and growth models, he uncovers patterns that repeat across nature and mathematics. At its core, the talk reveals how simple rules can generate complex, beautiful structures—and why these similarities exist at all.
Sabyasachi Mukherjee is an Associate Professor at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, working at the forefront of modern mathematics. His research explores deep connections between complex dynamics, conformal geometry, and Teichmüller theory, advancing our understanding of intricate mathematical structures. A recipient of the prestigious 2025 Vigyan Yuva–Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, he is among the leading young mathematicians in the field. He has also been invited to speak at the 2026 International Congress of Mathematicians, one of the highest honors in the global mathematical community.
